The Importance of Community

I believe that the most heartbreaking of these times would be the lack of community. We live in a day and age where cell phones and animals are more important than just being a good friend and human to someone else. Also, we’re often way too busy bickering with each other instead of getting to know each other. The slightest difference we have with someone, we could instantly cut them out of our lives. How does any of this glorify God? It doesn’t. It grieves Him. It grieves the Holy Spirit.
Community is when we encourage each other. Community is when we hold each other accountable. Community is when we get the support to move forward again. Without community, life becomes impossible.
When I was alone, without a home, it was VERY difficult to keep moving forward. The constant pressure and condemnation from society to do this and do that without a helping hand just made me defeated for longer than I should have been. I couldn’t encourage myself because I was constantly seeing the stresses around me. I was letting the cares of this world affect me more than any good I had going in my life. I cried myself to sleep many times in my own car because I lacked a great and supportive community. Without a solid community to turn to, life becomes impossible to try and try again. Life becomes impossible to get back up again. God even said in the beginning, before the fall, that it was no good for man to be alone. If He said that even before the world became broken, then how much would it be necessary now?
The constant bickering on social media or just sharing posts and memes in order for someone to get it does NOT work. We cannot share a meme and expect that will change the world. Look at the example of the good Samaritan. I’m pretty sure they had many differences but they still helped out the individual who needed it the most.
Is it possible to ever get back to a point where community becomes a thing again? Will we teach our children that people are more important than our devices and video games? Will we ever put down the phone ourselves and go talk to someone new? Did Jesus die for cell phones and video games? Or did He have a family, a community, worth going to?
When we lose the value of true community, we lost. We would lose this nation. We would lose everything. Families are important too of course and the original community for children but eventually they will grow up and form other communities, if they choose. The most danger we can ever do is continue to live as an introvert. There is a difference between solitude and introvert. Introvert is just selfish. Jesus came to earth to SERVE others. He didn’t just stay in heaven and lived like an introvert. He loved us too much. If the goal truly is to be more like Jesus, then we all have to shake off the excuse of being an introvert. All throughout scripture, God never cared for excuses. I doubt He would care about us using introvert excuses either. God deserves a family. He deserves a community. We are supposed to be His hands and feet while on this earth. We cannot be that when our devices or animals or more important than someone new.
This is why The Overcomer Life was created. I longed for community but unfortunately, I never got one for years. I rejected myself because that was what I often knew everywhere I went. I was rejected in family. I was rejected in churches. I was rejected by the world. I stopped caring for myself because it was hard to care for myself when no one else did. Communities are crucial to the survival of this nation. We must quit with being addicted to memes and social media, and our own devices and get out there ourselves. We were created for community.
If you don’t have a community of your own, you can join it here. We would love to have you! I know what it’s like and how hard it is to try to do life alone. It’s hard. It’s messy. It’s chaotic. It’s not intended to be that way. We’re meant to thrive together. We’re meant to help each other. We’re called to help each other grow and succeed.
Love this!
Glad you learned about community and the importance of it.
In fact, Jesus’s #1 commandment is to “Love one Another”, so of course, right there he’s talking about community 💗.
Thank you for sharing <3
